TMS at Live Well Psychiatry
At Live Well Psychiatry, TMS is more than just a treatment—it’s part of a larger plan to support your mental health and overall wellbeing. We combine compassionate care with advanced clinical tools to make your experience as effective and comfortable as possible. From precision targeting to ongoing progress monitoring, we focus on what works—so you can focus on becoming well
Comfortable. Personalized. Effective.

Comfortable.
At Live Well Psychiatry, comfort is a key part of our TMS experience. While TMS involves delivering magnetic pulses to specific areas of the brain, many patients describe the sensation as a light tapping or flicking on the scalp. Our advanced equipment and targeted protocols focus the stimulation on small, precise regions—avoiding the broad, often uncomfortable approach used by older machines or outdated procedures.
In fact, many other practices still rely on high-intensity settings that can be difficult to tolerate. But recent research shows that lower levels of stimulation can be just as effective—without the discomfort. That’s why our team is committed to staying current with the latest advancements and tailoring treatment to each patient’s needs. We aim to find the lowest effective level of stimulation, making your experience more comfortable while still achieving powerful, lasting results.

Personalized.
At Live Well Psychiatry, we use the MagVenture TMS system—one of the most advanced and versatile TMS machines available today. This technology allows our team to tailor each treatment to the individual by adjusting the coil placement, stimulation frequency, and intensity based on your unique brain and comfort level. Every patient begins with a motor threshold assessment, which helps us determine the lowest effective dose needed to stimulate the targeted brain circuits without unnecessary discomfort.
Unlike one-size-fits-all approaches, MagVenture gives us the flexibility to focus stimulation on specific, small regions of the brain that research shows are involved in mood regulation. We also offer newer protocols like theta burst stimulation (TBS), which is not only faster but often more comfortable and more effective. Because we stay current with the latest research and training, our providers can personalize your care in a way that feels gentle, precise, and designed just for you.

Effective.
TMS is a highly effective, FDA-approved treatment for individuals struggling with depression—especially for those who haven’t found relief through medication alone. At Live Well Psychiatry, we’ve seen firsthand how personalized TMS protocols can lead to lasting improvements in mood, energy, and overall well-being. International data shows that up to 70% of patients experience significant symptom relief. Our clinic has an 89% success rate. Many of our patients go on to achieve full remission.
What sets our approach apart is the way we tailor each treatment to your specific needs using the advanced MagVenture system. By carefully adjusting stimulation settings and targeting the right brain regions, we maximize the potential for positive outcomes while minimizing discomfort. With consistent sessions and the support of our experienced team, TMS can help retrain the brain to function more effectively—offering new hope when other treatments haven’t worked.
What Our Patients Say:
FAQs
What is TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation)?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment for adults with Major Depressive Disorder who haven’t responded to traditional therapies like medication or talk therapy. It works by using magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. Treatments are brief, require no sedation, and patients can return to normal activities immediately afterward.
How is TMS Actually Done?
Before starting treatment, we identify your motor threshold—the lowest stimulation level needed to activate your motor cortex. We then use a magnetic coil to deliver targeted pulses to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), an area involved in mood regulation, using a method called neuro-cardio targeting to enhance accuracy, consistency, and clinical outcomes.
How Effective is TMS?
Our clinic has an 89% success rate, defined by at least a 50% improvement in symptoms from pre to post treatment. Many of our patients go on to achieve full remission, with final depression scores of 5 or less by the end of treatment. We monitor your progress using standardized depression rating scales throughout the course of treatment. Nationally, TMS has a 70% success rate.
These results are possible because we focus on precision and personalization through the use of advanced targeting methods and research-informed protocols, which allow us to deliver individualized care beyond the limitations of one-size-fits-all approaches.
Safety and Screening:
TMS is safe and well tolerated for most people, but it may not be appropriate if you have:
Metallic implants in or near the head (excluding dental work)
A history of seizures or epilepsy
Certain neurological or medical conditions
We carefully screen every patient before starting treatment to ensure safety. If you’re a good candidate, we’ll guide you through the treatment plan that fits your needs best.
What Conditions Does TMS Treat?
At Live Well Psychiatry, we offer two distinct treatment options depending on your diagnosis and treatment goals:
Insurance-Covered TMS
TMS is FDA-approved for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adults who have not found relief from traditional treatments like medication or talk therapy. If you meet criteria based on your history and insurance plan requirements, we may be able to provide treatment that is covered under your mental health benefits. Our team will help guide you through the pre-authorization and eligibility process to determine if you qualify.Self-Pay TMS for Non-FDA or Non-Insured Conditions
For patients seeking support for other symptoms or conditions not currently covered by insurance, we offer self-pay off-label* treatment options based on research-supported protocols. These include:
Generalized anxiety
Obsessive-compulsive or neurotic tendencies
Chronic pain
While insurance does not cover these protocols, they are informed by current clinical research and are administered with care and attention to patient safety. These treatments provide more flexibility and individualized care for those looking for additional relief beyond traditional coverage.
What To Expect During Treatment:
You’ll sit in a comfortable, reclining chair while the doctor and/or a trained technician places the TMS coil to your scalp.
You’ll feel a tapping sensation and hear clicking during the session.
Sessions last 3–10 minutes and require no recovery time.
Side effects are typically mild and short-lived. The most common are:
Scalp tenderness or sensitivity
Temporary headache
Minor facial muscle twitching during treatment
You’ll be fully alert and able to resume normal activities—like driving, working, or errands—right after each session.
*Off-label use refers to protocols not FDA-approved for specific conditions but supported by a substantial body of peer-reviewed research. These protocols are administered using FDA-approved equipment by technicians licensed through the Clinical TMS Society (NCTMSS) and trained in advanced, research-informed techniques.
