Frequently Asked Medication Questions

If your provider prescribes you medications, please take them according to their instructions. Please also note that many medications take 5-14 days to take full effect. Your provider will tell you how long your medication will take to reach its full effects. Most of your medication questions can be answered through one of the sections here.

  • To request medication refills through the patient portal, follow these steps:

    1. Log in to the Patient Portal : Visit the portal at Patient Portal Link and log in with your credentials.

    2. Navigate to the Prescriptions Section : Once logged in, look for the "Prescriptions" section where you can see a list of your medications.

    3. Request a Refill : Select the medication you need a refill for and follow the prompts to submit your refill request.

    4. Confirmation : After submitting, you should receive a confirmation that your request has been received.

    Remember to make your requests with plenty of lead time, as all refill requests may take up to 2 working days to process.

    To see how many refills you have left, check the label on your medication bottle.

    If your medication bottle says there are no refills it means one of the following:

    • You recently had an appointment and your refills will have a different tracking number from your previous fill. You will need to speak with the pharmacist and confirm that a new set of prescriptions have been forwarded.

    • You are overdue for an appointment. If you do not have an appointment, call our office immediately to schedule one. You may ask the pharmacy to send us a request for a refill and it will be reviewed once you have set an appointment.

  • It is important to note that for the first week or so of a new medication, there may be unanticipated side effects. This is common, and usually over the second week these side effects will decrease as the benefits of the medication increase. For side effects that are mild to moderate, wait for a week or two with the expectation that they will dissipate. Only if side effects are extreme or increasing in intensity should you call for an urgent appointment. If you are concerned for your safety because of severe side effects, stop taking the medication causing the problem and call our office to make an urgent appointment. This recommendation only applies to new medications or changes in dose. Unless otherwise directed, continue taking any regular medications and/or return to your previous dose size.

    Many medications can cause rashes, most of which are not serious, but some can be serious indeed. If you have developed an unfamiliar rash call or page immediately. Similarly, if you have developed a fever or swollen lymph nodes call or page immediately.

  • Medications cannot be changed over the phone. In order to make a change in your prescription your provider must perform a clinical assessment, review past records, discuss your options, and explain how the change in medication will affect you. If you feel your medication needs to be changed, please call the next business day and make an urgent appointment.

  • If requesting a pharmacy transfer, please send a message through the patient portal or send a text message to our office. Please include the patient’s name, date of birth, which medication(s) you want transferred, and the full address of the pharmacy that you are transferring to.

  • Do not take more medication than directed! If you run out of medication early, call our office for an appointment to discuss your use of the medication with your provider. The provider may or may not approve additional medication during this appointment.

    If you will run out of medication before the provider can see you, the prover may approve a partial script at your prescribed dosage to last till appointment, but for a maximum of 7 days. We will not extend this period to accommodate a missed or rescheduled appointment.

    We recommend that you keep your medications in a safe place. Do not take your entire supply on vacation or to your place of work. Do not keep more than a 1-2 day supply in your purse or other vulnerable areas. We will not replace medication that has been lost or stolen.

  • Please note that we will not refill any prescriptions you may have that are unrelated to your psychiatric care. Without consulting with other providers, it can be dangerous to prescribe you medication we have not approved. Likewise, when other providers refill medications we prescribe, it can disrupt your treatment plan and result in complications to your mental health. We are only interested in providing you with the best possible care, and are careful to prescribe medication you need, and no more. If your provider at Live Well Psychiatry will not refill your prescription without an appointment, please trust that it is for a good reason and do not ask other providers to fill the prescription instead. Your mental health is extremely important to us, and we don’t want to jeopardize any progress you have made by deviating from your treatment plan.

    Please be advised that all filled prescriptions, including those paid for with cash, are tracked by the Board of Pharmacy.
