Scott P. Hoopes, MD

Psychiatrist located in Meridian, ID

About Dr. Hoopes

Scott P. Hoopes, MD, is an experienced and well-respected psychiatrist, serving patients at Live Well Psychiatry, located in Meridian, Idaho.

Dr. Hoopes completed his undergraduate degree in Zoology and his masters in Classical Languages at BYU before completing his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Utah. His residency took him and his young family to Portland to train in Psychiatry at the Oregon Health Sciences University. While there, he elected to spend his final general psychiatry year training full-time in the Child Psychiatry Department. Thus, although he is not formally a child psychiatrist, he has had substantial training and experience in treating children. His first years of practice were at Mountain Home Air Force Base, where he was Chief of Behavioral Medicine for two years.

He has practiced in Boise since 1995, and since 2003 he has only seen patients in his outpatient practice. From 1997 to 2002, Dr. Hoopes was the principal investigator for over 30 industry-sponsored clinical trials in his own research organization. He returned to full-time clinical practice in 2002. He has published studies on eating disorders and mood disorders, and he has lectured widely on psychiatric illnesses. He and his friend and colleague, Dawson Hedges, MD, wrote Bipolar Disorder: A Clinical Guide, published by Lippincott.

It is particularly gratifying for him to work with a wonderful group of clinicians in a clinic where they all share the passion to “get people well.”
